How to Use

myPlaybook is intended to educate NCAA student-athletes regarding drug testing policies/procedures and banned substances as well as prevent future substance use. It is a wonderful resource for satisfying NCAA requirements for drug education. Student-athletes can be asked to complete myPlaybook on their own time, as part of an existing course, during orientation, during team meetings, etc. Staff at Prevention Strategies will help you identify the most effective approach for your campus.

myPlaybook can also serve as a valuable resource to students majoring in Sport Science, Leisure Recreation, Sports Management, Public Health Education and other related disciplines.

Best Practice

Of the institutions that have used myPlaybook in the past, greatest success was accomplished when one or more of the following implementation strategies were employed:

  • Mandating myPlaybook: various schools mandated the completion of myPlaybook. This also included strict deadlines as well as consequences for those who did not meet the requirement.
  • Coordinating the implementation of myPlaybook with other Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) education efforts on campus.
  • Email correspondence with student-athletes by the institution: While the myPlaybook team can email student-athletes on a regular basis, many schools took it upon themselves to keep email correspondences regular and consistent. For the schools that did not mandate myPlaybook, this helped to increase student-athlete completion rates.
  • Informing all Athletic Staff about myPlaybook via emails and during meeting times: Institutions that kept athletic staff (coaches, athletic trainers and strength and conditioning coaches) informed about the implementation of myPlaybook had significantly higher student-athlete completion rates.
  • Announcement the implementation of myPlaybook during compliance meetings.
  • Include information in student-athlete handbook/planner
  • Initiate as well as maintain ongoing communication with Jeff Milroy (Director of myPlaybook)
