myPlaybook is an evidence-based program designed to prevent alcohol and other drug related harm among college student-athletes. The full web-based program will be an 8 course series emphasizing a different topic each semester beginning with the Fall Freshman semester. Funding for the development of the program is being provided by a grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), and funding for a large-scale evaluation of the first course of the program is being funded by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in collaboration with Division II and NIDA.
The myPlaybook program includes:
- Easy to use method of meeting NCAA minimum guidelines for drug education (1 activity per semester)
- Interactive web-based learning exercises
- Immediate student feedback
- Freedom to complete the program any time or place with Internet access
- Tools to track student progress
- Tools to track dissemination of NCAA banned substances list
- Student access to the REC (Resource Exchange Center) hosted by the National Center for Drug Free Sport, Inc
- Certificate of completion
- Online surveys to assess the impact of the program on athletesOnline surveys to assess the impact of the program on athletes’
Specific Program Content:
- NCAA’s role in drug testing and drug education
- Standardized education on the NCAA banned substances
- Required NCAA drug education and testing video
- Strategies designed to increase drug-related knowledge and protective behavioral intentions
- Content aligned with commitment statements from the NCAA Champs Life Skills program
- Each course focused on a minimum of two substances and their effects on athletic performance and recovery from injury
